With great sadness, we wish to inform the Fordham Law community that Larry Abraham died on the afternoon of October 28 after a long illness.

For 16 years, Larry was a scintillating font of passion, positivity, ideas, expertise, consolation, and humor for countless Fordham Law students, for his colleagues at the Fordham Law library, and for the entire Fordham Law community. We will miss him enormously.

Laurence J. Abraham graduated from Columbia University, magna cum laude, and from Columbia Law School where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone scholar. After clerking for the Hons. Marie Garibaldi and Jaynee LaVeccia at the Supreme Court of New Jersey, Larry became a litigation associate at Sullivan & Cromwell. In 2004, he was hired by Fordham Law School as a reference librarian and served, since 2008, as Maloney Library’s Head of Instructional Services until his recent illness rendered him too ill to work.

For many members of the Fordham Law community, Larry was the law library. His passions were improving access to legal information and helping law students thrive in law school and achieve their goals. He indulged these passions with great joy and enthusiasm. Not one to cloister himself in an office, Larry roamed the law school from law review office to moot courtroom to clinic helping students to find the law and to find themselves. More than one prospective student chose Fordham Law over another school because of the warm welcome and good advice they (and their parents) received from Larry when their law school tour passed by the Reference Desk when he was on duty.

It is difficult to imagine the Maloney Library and the Fordham Law School without Larry. He taught us much. He cared deeply for his students and for this law school. Above all, he made us laugh. Under the pressure of life at a law school, that is a precious gift.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, 10/30 at 12:30PM at the Riverside Chapel at 180 West 76th Street in Manhattan.

The family requests that contributions in Larry’s memory be made to Fordham Law School. Contributions can be made online at or by calling 212.636.7637 and should be made in memory of Larry. Additionally, checks may be mailed to: Development Office, Fordham Law School, 150 West 62nd Street, New York, NY 10023.
