Library FAQ

  1. What are the library’s hours of operation?

    2. The library space will be open for studying from 8AM-11PM, Sunday-Friday, and 10AM-6PM on Saturday. Visit the hours section on the library homepage for full service hours and other details.

  2. Do I really have to book a seat to study in the library?

    3. Yes. Since library capacity is significantly limited in light of social distancing protocols, we want students to be sure that a seat is available in the library before they arrive. Further information can be found at the Book a Study Seat link on the library website.

  3. Can I bring a guest into the library?

    4. During the COVID-19 pandemic, guests are not allowed in the library.

  4. Where can I access past exams?

    5. During COVID-19, old exams are not being circulated by the library in print or electronically. Please ask your professor to post old exams on a course management system.

  5. Are you circulating books during the pandemic?

    6. Yes, print books from our stacks are circulating with a 16-week loan period. For safety, they will be quarantined for the appropriate time before being reshelved. 2-hour reserve books are also circulating with the same quarantine times.

  6. Are you circulating phone chargers during COVID?

    7. Unfortunately, we will not be circulating phone chargers, book stands, or whiteboard markers until further notice.

  7. How do I access course reserves?

    8. Search by course name or the name of your professor in the search box on the library homepage (https://law.fordham.edu/library). The library isn’t currently offering physical course reserves, but you can still find ebooks and digital course reserves linked from your course page in the library catalog.

  8. Will scanning and copying machines be available in the library?

    9. Yes, but social distancing and sanitation protocols apply. Please obey rules posted in printing areas.

  9. What can I do if the library does not hold a book or article that I need for my research?

    10. Check with a reference librarian to confirm that the item is unavailable to you. Then, you can make an Interlibrary Loan request to borrow the item from another library; instructions are available on the library website.

  10. How can I return a book if I am not physically in New York?

  11. How do get online access to West Academic study aids like Hornbooks, Nutshell, or Gilbert’s outlines?

    12. West Study Aids are available through the library catalog here; select the link for Online Access. Or select Remote Access to Materials on the Library Services During COVID-19 page and click on West Study Aids.

  12. How do I speak with a librarian to help me with a research question?

    13. During reference hours, you can chat, email, or call 212-536-6908 to reach a reference librarian.

  13. My online bluebook link has expired. Will it be extended? Can I get a new one?

    14. The online bluebook links made available for free at the end of last semester will not be renewed. You can purchase a print Bluebook from Amazon or from the publisher. An online version of the Bluebook is also available from the publisher.

  14. I can’t find or was never sent a Westlaw, Lexis, or Bloomberg Law activation code. How can I get one or all of these?
